Mohammad Nouri (December 22, 1929 – July 31, 2010) was one of the foremost folk and pop singers in Iran.
He studied the English Language and Literature at the University of Tehran, but continued his professional career in music.He studied Persian music under Esmaeil Mehrtash and music theory and piano under Sirous Shahrdar and Fereidoun Farzaneh. In his singing style he was considered as a follower of Hossein Aslani and Naser Hosseini.
Nouri rose to prominence in the 1960s with his distinct style of singing and enjoyed four decades of popularity among Iranians of all generations.
His song Jaan-e Maryam, Gol-e Maryam, as well as his patriotic song Iran, Iran, have been and are well known melodies and themes among three generations of Iranians from both before and after the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
Early in his career, Nouri enjoyed some degree of popularity among chore orchestral music lovers. His tunes were often serious and thought-provoking, hardly palatable, though, for the young and old pop music lovers who admired stage and special event performers, such as Viguen and a host of others. Nouri held his chosen career in such high esteem and refused to be ranked among pop singers who were mushrooming during 60's and 70's perhaps because he observed how they often stooped to degradation that ordinarily money and fame imposed on the arts. Not surprisingly, other than the few folk tunes, his were mostly played on public radio and then only during odd hours and somewhat regularly for army radio program's music breaks.

Noori trained to sign when being young by Evelin Baqchehban and learned the music theory by two high-school music teachers, Sirous Shardar and Fereydoon Farzaneh. He believed that his singing style is influenced by texture and richness of plectrum by masters such as Hossein Aslani, Nasser Hosseini and Muhammad Sarir.
During twenty decade, it was began a kind of thinking of the vocal lyrics and music among the people, especially the young generation, a part of which can be ascribed to an effect coming from broadcasting and the publication of the wider scientific music and folklore works from around the world, by radio and phonograph records. "Noori" in those years –teenager ages- began to get experienced as a singer by singing the new lyrics on the songs from the occident and some classical pieces which had composed.
Noori, during following years, relying on his education in the vocation and university, could grant an independent identity in the thoughts and attitudes; and performing the teachers’ works as mentioned earlier, a thoughtful space had been made in his style of how singing. One of the most famous songs of Mohammad Noori would be “Dear Mary” a beautiful song of his own compositions. In addition to receiving a degree in English literature and the dramatic major, he learned Iranian song to Ismael Mehrtash. Then he attended in the High School Music to be learnt by two masters “Sirous Shardar” and “Fereydoon Farzaneh” and "Mostafa Poortorab" on music theory, playing piano and Solfege; learned classical singing lessons by Evelin Baghchehban and Fakhereh Saba and founded his vocal style influenced by masters such as Hossein Aslani, Nasser Hussaini and gradually found their own unique way. Noori took graduates from School of Theatre and English Literature from Tehran University, and Principles of the theater from Faculty of Social Science.
After the Islamic Revolution, and after a period of silence, his career was resumed with the album under “In a cold winter night” along with Faribroz Lachini and Ahmad Reza Ahmadi in 1368 and later continued with the album under “Songs of the Land of the sun”. In 1385 he was selected and introduced by IRIB as memorable face in the music.
Finally, after years of struggle with cancer of the bone marrow and deteriorating health status in the evening of August 9 in Tehran in 1389, he died in hospital
